As you perhaps know, the semifinal of the 2004 Spingold Cup featured the most dramatic comeback ever in top-level bridge: the Nickell team, down by 70+ imps after three segments, made a terrific rally in the last 16 boards and finally won by 10! Much like the TV crew that fails to capture an exquisite goal, the ACBL never transmitted this segment because they thought the outcome was beyond doubt.
Thanks to various reports (in the Bridge World and other sources) and the diligent work of the Vugraph Project Team, we can now offer you a "reconstruction" of the Vugraph transmission. Obviously, the bidding and play record is far from complete; for instance, when you see an opening bid of 3NT this simply means that the final contract was 3NT by this player. Also, a lot of guesswork was involved in the spot cards during the play. However, we hope that all the essential information is there.
